About Steve
I’ve worked as an Art Director and Creative Director in advertising for over twenty five years. People don’t always believe me because I don’t quite look my age, but I started young and learnt from the best. And that’s all culminated with Walter.
Some people say that my care with craft is ‘old school’, but I think it still has its place. Even more so in a world of working responsively and being nimble. I believe that the craft in art direction makes a big difference, not just to the way it looks, but to its efficacy. Experience has also taught me where and when to invest the time and energy.
Whether it’s a branded content series, design piece or global store experience, my approach is always the same - considered, measured and handled with care from strategy, ideation to execution. My clients know to expect a mountain of questions in our briefs, as I try to put myself in the shoes of the customer every time. I believe that it shows in the ideas and how it’s presented back to clients.
I’m a quiet thinker and intuitive human, so I try to bring out the best in everyone around me. Collaborating and working with great people has always been the most rewarding part of the job. And channelling that into creating the best work comes from all of that experience. Which means clients, suppliers and partners often come back for more. Building trust is key, and even though I’m never the loudest voice or biggest personality at the table, I love when my clients realise that I’m always thinking hard to find solutions, and am always committed to making the work as good as it can possibly be. Even at 4am in the morning.
